Freemasons Awareness Day Whereas Freemasons across Ontario are dedicated to the betterment of their communities through the adherence of three ancient and fundamental principles—brotherly love, charity and truth; And whereas the members of the three Masonic Lodges in the City of Timmins along with their concordant organizations have served in support and advancement of the several communities that make up the City since 1911; And whereas this Fall, Freemasons across Northeastern Ontario are celebrating the Centennial of their association as a unified district within the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario; Now therefore be it resolved that the City of Timmins recognize the ongoing contribution of the Masonic fraternity within both its community and region by designating October 28`" 2016 as `Freemason's Day' in the municipality.
Support for the Porcupine Tartan BE IT RESOLVED THAT Council does hereby authorize that the Porcupine Tartan shall be declared the official Tartan, and permanent symbol of The Corporation of the City of Timmins.
Santa Claus Parade re: Street Closure BE IT RESOLVED THAT Council for the Corporation of the City of Timmins does hereby approve a request by the Timmins Santa Claus Parade Committee for closure of streets (parade route attached) for the Santa Claus Parade to be held Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. AND FURTHER THAT a ban on street parking along parade route be implemented on the date of the parade. AND FURTHER THAT a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Timmins Police Service, Timmins Fire Department, Public Works Department, Parks & Recreation and Timmins Transit. AND FURTHER THAT liability insurance in the amount of $5 million be provided, naming the City as additional named insured.
Appointment to FONOM Board of Directors BE IT RESOLVED THAT Council does hereby approve Mayor Steve Black being appointed to the FONOM Board of Directors.
Snow Plowing for Charland Road and Bertrand Road BE IT RESOLVED THAT Council does herby approve entering into an agreement with Chaco Enterprises for the plowing of Charland Road and Bertrand Road in the amount of $47,000.00 + HST.
CN Gogama Derailment Clean Up Whereas CN rail had a derailment in March 2015 in the Gogama area which resulted in a quantity of oil being released into the local ecosystem and Matagami Region Watershed, Whereas technical experts have indicated there is no threat to the Timmins drinking water system but council still wishes to support our first nations and community neighbors and the safeguarding of their environment. And Whereas clean up efforts by CN Rail have been ongoing and are being monitored by, and are being undertaken in accordance with regulations by both the Federal and Provincial Ministries of Environment, And Whereas the City of Timmins supports the local area residents and First Nations People and requests that clean up efforts be expedited in order to have the site and contaminants removed from the local ecosystem and Matagami Region Watershed, Now Be it Resolved that the City of Timmins Council hereby requests that CN Rail work in conjunction with the both the Federal and Provincial Ministries of Environment to expedite the clean up of the Gogama area derailment site and spill providing it can be done so in a manner that does not cause more significant damage or harm to the environment than presently exists.
