MOTIONS OF COUNCIL Additional Monetary Relief for Citizens due to the COVID-19 Pandemic WHEREAS the residents, and businesses, of City of Timmins, are facing severe economic challenges, as well personal health issues, with respect to the global COVID-19 pandemic. AND WHEREAS, experts in the health care field are unable to safety predict an end to this pandemic. AND WHEREAS, even when this pandemic is over, residents, and businesses, will have lost substantial amounts of income that will never be recovered by any current emergency funding from other levels of government. AND WHEREAS, it is tantamount for the City of Timmins Council recognize these facts and consider the following recommendations to assist our residents, and businesses, to get through this very difficult time. AND WHEREAS, City of Timmins Council has already directed Administration to waive late payment interest on taxes due and water/wastewater fees due. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT all other 2020 user fee increases be cancelled indefinitely for re-evaluation, at a time, when the risk to our residents is terminated on advice of health authorities. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT Council of the City of Timmins direct Administration to table a 0% increase tax-based budget for consideration at the next scheduled meeting of Council. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT Council of the City of Timmins instruct Administration to reassess the previous approved 2020 fee increase for water and wastewater for elimination or reduction.
