MOTIONS OF COUNCIL Bonaventure Drive Event re: Noise Exemption BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the City of Timmins hereby approves an exemption to the City of Timmins Noise by-law 1986-1998 on August 6, 2022 until midnight at 345 Bonaventure Drive, Timmins for a neighborhood friends and family party. AND FURTHER THAT a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Timmins Police Service.
City of Timmins Francophone Liaison Committee re: Strike a taskforce WHEREAS more than half (51%) of the population in the City of Timmins speaks French, and it's the mother tongue of over a third (36%) of the population; AND WHEREAS the "the large bilingual workforce in Timmins provides a competitive advantage relative to the rest of Ontario"; AND WHEREAS studies show that "the argument for bilingualism can be made not only on historical grounds but also on social and economic terms showing across-the-board benefits of bilingualism for all [residents]: individuals, employers, sectors and the [community] as a whole"; AND WHEREAS the City of Timmins and much of the region is facing an aging workforce and declining population, and projections reveal that "in order to maintain the 2016 proportion of core working-age French speakers in Timmins, 41.1 to 41.5 per cent of future in-migrants would need to be Francophones, which represents 3,231 to 3,961 required in-migrants"; AND THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the City of Timmins strikes a taskforce to assess the recommendations put forth by the Northern Policy Institute (2022) and establish a roadmap to act on them accordingly in order to attract and retain more French-speakers to the city.

Porcupine Commons - Park Renovations and Upgrades (former Melview Park) BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the City of Timmins does hereby commit $210,000.00 of the $420,000.00 total project costs for the Porcupine Commons - Park Renovation and Upgrades (former Melview Park) and supports an application to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation's Community Enhancement Program; AND FURTHER THAT the City is committed to earmark the revenue received from the sale of the two residential lots towards the project; AND FURTHER THAT the City is committed to cover any cost overruns related to the project.
